Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a public school, and the students must pass a rigorous test to be accepted into to our program. Many of the students travel long distances just to attend our unique school. Our school is one of only two schools in our large district that addresses the needs of the highly gifted child. The school is comprised of only three classrooms, but we share a campus with the resident school for children who live in the area. For this reason, we are lucky to have a rich and diverse culture on our campus. My students come from many different cultures and backgrounds. The students are a very inquisitive and motivated bunch. In my classroom, students are encouraged to think deeply about subjects, to explore topics, and to apply and express their knowledge in a variety of ways.
My Project
Each of these items will be used in my classroom to enhance student learning. The book titled "By the Great Horn Spoon" will be used as an interdisciplinary study to hit Language Arts Standards as well as Social Studies standards. I find that by using the book in correlation to what we are learning about in Social Studies really brings it to life for my students.
Having the necessary items in class helps make my job a whole lot easier.
The poster boards are a fantastic way for my students to showcase their learning around the classroom. Since we are on a raised foundation, the Chair Socks help to lessen the noise and scratches on the floor.
