The goal for Phalen Lake Hmong Studies is for every child to contribute to and become part of our growing multicultural society. Through a special focus on the Hmong language, students explore culture, history, folklore, art, literature, and traditions of many cultures. Our dual immersion program gives students the advantage of learning through two languages, English and Hmong.

My classroom consists of many eager learners who are of Hmong, Latino, Hispanic, African American and Karen heritage.
My Project
One of my professional goals is to be knowledgeable in my field so that I have the resources necessary to address the needs of all my students in their academic adventures.
As a teacher, I am always seeking new ideas, practices, and strategies that would enhance my professional growth so that I can utilize it to help facilitate a classroom of growth mindset learners.
I can enhance my practice with resources that will help me address my students' cognitive and social-emotional needs. There are books that will provide me with many strategies and guidance. These books will help me provide support with reading, writing, and math at various levels of learning and in various learning environments. The books are: The Reading Strategies Book, The Writing Strategies Book, Conferring with Readers, and Read, Talk, Write. The Classroom-Ready Number Talks will support me in helping students articulate their math thinking or problem-solving skills.
I am also asking for some resources to help in creating a classroom environment of "growth mindset" learners. The Growth Mindset Coach book is a wonderful resource that will provide me with guided lessons in teaching students about their own potentials as learners and that learning is continuous.
