"We must prepare our children not for the world of the past, not for our world, but for their world, the world of the future.”
~John Dewey. By having STEM materials in the classroom I will be able to get my students ready for the constant problem solving they will encounter in life.
We are a second grade class in a Title I School in Oregon.
While teaching I like to have my students actively engaged in hands-on projects. My students are busy and enjoy challenges where they can manipulate materials to help them solve real problems. This hands-on approach also helps my students to stay focused.
My students need more STEM materials: Stem Bundles, Magnetism, and Engineering. They also need nonfiction books that support the ideas of STEM and explain the way the world around them works. In the classroom it is critical for students to understand the connections between what they are learning, and how they can apply it in their lives. With the help of the STEM bundles and nonfiction books, my students will gain a deeper understanding of the connections between science, technology, engineering, and mathematics as they all relate to real life situations and problems.
The experience these STEM materials would give to my class will help them to develop stronger problem solving skills and a more comprehensive understanding of the world around them.
