I believe in providing differentiated instruction to my students in order to meet a variety of needs.
The best thing about my classroom of students is the many different cultures, languages, and academic backgrounds that each child brings.
About half of my students are English Language Learners (ELLs), from at least 9 different home languages. My classroom academics are highly diverse, as well. The reading levels in my classroom ranges from beginning level kindergarten--learning the letters and letter sounds--to middle of the year 2nd grade reading.
While some of my sweet kinders are still learning the numbers themselves, others are learning the basics of addition and subtraction, while another group is learning higher-level math skills that incorporate high academic language, abstract thinking, and visualization. As you can see, a lot is happening within just one kindergarten classroom!
My Project
Students will use the teaching table to meet with me for small group work. The design of the table is functional and perfect for small group work. The cut-out space allows me to reach each child, and the curved table allows the students to see and discuss with each other so small group work is collaborative.
Being a strong believer in differentiated instruction, small group work is critical.
This is where I can teach a small group of students where they are at academically--whether it is teaching some of my kiddos who are still sounding out words letter by letter, or doing a small group book study on an intro chapter book. Whatever the academic target is, it is important to have a functional place to work. This round teaching table would allow me to perform small group work in a great setting.
