I work with students with autism who are learning from the Common Core State Standards. Many of them receive instruction in the areas of math, reading, and English language arts in the special education classroom. Some of the students spend time with their regular education peers. All the students have social skills and sensory needs that require support in both the regular education and special education classrooms. They are all verbal, but they still need help with communication. All of my students are capable and smart, and sometimes they just need a different approach!
My Project
The Superflex Curriculum teaches students with autism to become flexible thinkers. Many students with autism have very rigid thinking and it makes it difficult to accept change. The Superflex Curriculum has characters that teach students to flex their thinking and it helps them to become more able to assimilate in our ever changing world. It helps with social emotional learning as well as academics. It is a fun curriculum that has cute characters that help teach different ways to think and how to change thinking. As a teacher of students with autism for 7 years, I know how difficult it is to change a student's thinking. This curriculum will really help my students.
