My Project

I live and teach kindergarten in a rural community that has recently had a huge increase in the number of families and students. The influx of families and students had a huge impact on our school, and kindergarten in particular. Because of our raising numbers kindergarten is being moved to a different building in the fall. This will free up room in our current building and allow all the kinder teachers to have a classroom. We currently have a makeshift classroom in the middle of a pod that we built out of students' cubbies that houses our 5th kinder teacher and her class.

This year has been a difficult one and we see the long-term effects of the Covid shutdown almost daily in our youngest students.

We hope that the move to the other building will help us support our younger students better while also providing room for the upper grades to expand so they can better support their students. The sad part of this room is that we will be isolated from the older grades and our past students. On top of that, we are losing a ton of space from our current classrooms to our new ones. To make up for the lost space we are going to have to leave a lot behind. I am hoping to be able to get the requested small group tables so I can continue to offer quality small group instruction in my new classroom, while also having room for centers that support my students' social emotional, academic, and physical development. The puzzles are one of the activities we currently do to help develop fine motor skills that also align to our science and social studies standards. I would appreciate any help to make these wishes possible.
