"The object of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives."-Robert Hutchins
My students are full of love, joy, anger, fear, and many more emotions. Students with special needs have difficulties regulating their emotions. I hope to give them strategies for life.
We have the class motto "Everyone is different, and that's okay".
Our classroom is a self contained multiple disabilities unit in an elementary school. You will feel at home as soon as you walk through the front doors. In a room down the hall you will meet six of the most kindhearted, hardworking, and hilarious bunch of third graders. Their abilities include bringing a smile to your face, caring for others, and making progress every day!
My Project
Just imagine, a special needs classroom stocked with the best books money can buy. The possibilities for activities and lessons are endless. Our students will be able to read based on their interest and ability level. During circle time when we discuss feelings, our students will be able to use the Zones of Regulation strategies to self regulate. My students will learn how to appropriately handle difficult social interactions. Our students will be able to gain self esteem and confidence as they can control their strong emotions. We will read our new books Different Abilities Books (Set of 8) or our Our Community Helpers Book Set together and apply our new strategies to the characters in the books. My students will then generalize what they have learned to their own lives, to improve their quality of life.
Donations to our classroom will instantly and positively impact our students with special needs.
These books in the TIME FOR KIDS(r) Nonfiction Readers will provide them with the necessary tools and skills needed for life long learning. By reading and studying these books together, our class will develop social skills habits that will last a lifetime.
