My students are a diverse group of learners with a variety of needs. They bring many interests and skill levels to the classroom and I am constantly trying to innovate to make sure all learning needs are being met.
My school is located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan and we are a public, unscreened school.
This means we do not discriminate or screen based on prior test scores or GPAs. My students are incredibly energetic, passionate and full of curiosity. I feel honored to get to work with them each day!
My Project
This class set of books will be a part of my creative writing semester with juniors and seniors, some of whom are getting ready to head off to college next year.
The collection will not only allow us to study Eady's incredible poetic craft, but it will also allow us to explore issues of race and identity in a time in our country when we need to be discussing these issues in the classroom.
This poetry collection is life-changing, because Eady writes through the persona of an imaginary black man who is accused of a crime he did not commit. The poems will open up opportunities for discussion, debate, expression and of course, for students to write their own collection of poems, inspired by this one.
