Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many of my students are English Learners who always try their best, no matter what obstacles they are facing. My students come from low-income families that may not be able to provide supplies, and unfortunately, my school does not get very much funding for things like basic supplies and books.
Our school serves a diverse population, with many students learning English as their second language.
In order for my teaching to be effective, it's important to have the supplies and resources to support their needs. My students are curious, bright, energetic and deserve to have a quality education.
My Project
Many young children only have two emotions in their vocabulary, "happy" and "sad." With so many horrific things going on in the world, it's important for them to be able to express themselves accurately and thoroughly. This project contains books that deal with many different situations where the characters go through something emotionally, or have to overcome something difficult. These books will give us the opportunity to talk about how the character feels, what we would have done in that situation, and discuss different ways to solve problems.
I want to teach my students more than how to read and solve math problems, I want to teach them coping skills they will use throughout their life.
Social-emotional learning is the most important thing a teacher can teach. Being in touch with your emotions and having skills to cope is something that will benefit my students throughout their whole life, why not start now? I have also included a poster of different types of emotions to help my students expand their vocabulary when it comes to talking about their feelings.
