My Students
I am the Technology Resource teacher for 7th & 8th grade in my school. Most middle schoolers are "too cool for school" and usually have to be coerced into learning. Once their interest is piqued, they never cease to amaze me with their ability to learn. They usually are technology experts and can teach me a thing or two.
My students want their education to be relevant and mirror real-life experiences.
I want to give them the opportunity to shine. Together, we can be a most excellent team. In order to keep my classes relevant, I am constantly on the lookout for the newest "thing" to incorporate into my content. It can be so exhausting but exciting and exhilarating!
My Project
This is my first year as Technology teacher in my middle school. I inherited a huge classroom with many useful supplies, including a set of VEX IQ robots. The VEX IQ robot system looks pretty amazing. We've been able to follow the instructions to put together a robot and do some basic coding on our computers.
I know that I am barely scratching the surface with what this system is capable of doing.
I would like to attend a 4 1/2 day training at Carnegie Mellon's Robotics Academy to help bring more detailed and useful programming to my students. Teaching them to build with their hands and write instructions with their brains will engage some of my most challenging students and I want to be able to offer them expert advice. I know this training will help me do just that.
