My students need nonfiction books to be read during our various themes throughout the year that have nonfiction features and also meet our state science and SS standards.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our children are overwhelmed with fictional stories, but in today's world they need more vocabulary and background knowledge building since they are not getting it at home. These nonfiction books will do just that while teaching them how to navigate this type of literature.
My students are shining stars!
However, many of them come from poverty stricken homes or homes that speak little to no English. These books will give them access to information they would not be privy to anywhere else and help build their excitement about learning to read!
My Project
With these books I will be able to teach the children the features of nonfiction books, define new vocabulary with them, and build their background knowledge. We will also be using the information we learn to make our own nonfiction books that contain the information and features we have learned about.
This project is so important because it is putting books in the hands of our youngest readers with the intent to excite them about reading and learning!
When they create their own nonfiction books it will help to improve their writing and give them the opportunity to be their own authors!
