Middle school can be an intimidating new place for young students, which is why it is our job to engage them and support them in as many ways as we can. My students are entering their first year of middle school with open minds and the integrity and desire to learn and broaden their horizons. The children are determined and hardworking, always looking for the next challenge that they can tackle by the horns.
My students are the mathematicians of tomorrow, and engaging them in a subject that plays a pivotal part in our always advancing world is the key to a brighter future.
It is a subject that demands rigor, but also requires a level of compassion and enjoyment in order for one to be successful. For that reason, it is my job as an educator to involve them and engage them in the best way possible, allowing for the students to fully immerse and apply themselves in the subject.
My Project
The days of using overhead projectors and worksheets are long behind us. Engagement is a key component in a student's ability to learn and to thrive in a subject. Math is the subject of the future as our world evolves into a place that relies upon and builds so much using coding and algorithms.
The use of technology can allow for children to better engage in mathematics, and gives them to the tools to more readily apply it to their own interests.
Technology in the classroom allows us to better immerse and engage our students in rigorous and valuable lessons. It helps bridge the gap between understanding a theory or law and the real-world application of it.
The addition of a set of Amazon Fire tablets to our classroom allows for the students to become more engaged and hands on with their own learning. Tablets allow for personalization and can be well utilized during small group activities where the learning is placed more into their own hands at their own pace. It allows for the use of various apps and interactive programs that can fully immerse the child and allow them to get the most out of any lesson.
Through the use of a flipped classroom, students need access to technology in order to watch videos, interact with various apps and programs, as well as get the practice they need to be successful moving forward.
