Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Tell me I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn."
My students are all English Language Learners who attend a high poverty public school, where 70% of the students receive a free or reduced lunch.
Many of them come from single family homes. Some are separated from a parent who is still in their home country. They have many needs and face many challenges. Yet, I have provided them with a warm environment where they can feel free to take risks. Because of this, they love coming to school and work hard for me.
My Project
My students need notebooks, glue sticks, scissors and color pencils in order to start our interactive notebooks. Interactive notebooks are all the rage now. With interactive notebooks one side of the page is for teachers notes and examples of the skill being taught. The other side of the page is where the student displays their understanding of the concept via models, statements and equations. Students use critical thinking skills to organize and process information.
Teachers love interactive notebooks because they represent a simple yet powerful method for helping students learn.
Students love them because they're personal and reflective. Help us with supplies so we can put together an amazing interactive notebook that the students will use as their "go to" resource!
