Bringing the love of reading to math would decrease math anxiety, increase math enjoyment and incorporate reading skills. I teach two sections of math in 3rd grade. The students love to be involved with math manipulatives. I know they would also enjoy being read to or reading themselves. This would be especially true when introducing a math concept, summarizing the concept, or for review. These books not only would promote math but the love of reading and math together. The students I teach are eager learners in every avenue. They enjoy hands-on experiences in all subject matters including math. I can't wait to share these books with them.
My Project
It has long been a goal of mine to have a BOOK center just for math enjoyment and concepts. There are many options through literature that can aid in the enjoyment and learning of math skills. I also love to read to my students. This is yet another way I can increase excitement in math. These literature combinations I selected have the book that can be used, but there are many activities that will go along with the skill the book is referencing. These books will be wonderful when introducing, summarizing and reviewing concepts. They will also bring enjoyment to math learning.
