My students need black lights, buzzes, and games to provide more engaging learning activities. I want to provide them with materials to create hands-on writing, grammar, and vocabulary activities.
My students live in a place where there is not much to do outside of school. They are constantly asking if we can play learning games or do things that are fun. Technology has taken over many classrooms, and even though I love it, my students need opportunities to be more engaged in what they learn.
Reading has never been a big priority for many of my students because many are dealing with overwhelming adversities.
However, I know they truly want to succeed, and I want to do everything in my power to help them do so. Making school a placed filled with fun rigor is what they need to believe they can learn anything.
My Project
I recently attended the Ron Clark Academy thanks to Donorschoose.org. After attending, I realized that my students needed more engaging learning activities. To do this, I need resources to create many fun hands-on activities. I want to make learning as fun as possible but also make it rigorous. Sometimes, I see students getting bored sitting at their desks, so I want to get them up and moving while they learn rigorous material. I have chosen several items such as black lights to create glow-in-dark grammar and writing activities, as well as Jenga and Coin Hole to be used in as part of a literary escape room. These items will be used in the classroom to get students excited to learn and it will help make every moment magical.
