This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a teacher at a new school that opened up last year in a high poverty public school district. My students are faced with many challenges in their home life, even at a young age. Despite their challenges, I am looking to provide my students with a safe space that is rich, loving, and filled with meaningful learning experiences in the classroom. I am striving to meet each students’ needs. My students face many daily challenges, but they still need materials that will positively influence their love to learn and grow.
They need materials to be creative, interactive, curious learners.
My students always make a huge impact on my life, and I am trying to make a huge impact on theirs by giving them opportunities, materials, and experiences that will last a lifetime!
My Project
The early years of a child’s education is the time to build a strong foundation in all developmental areas that will establish behaviors and skills that will make them successful. This project will give my students the materials they need to develop their foundational skills to set them up for future success.
These materials will help my students build self-esteem, confidence, problem-solving skills, new vocabulary usage, collaboration skills, independence, and encourages planning and thinking ahead.
The two Magnetic Language Rod Activities and Alpha-Bots will help my students learn essential literary skills in an engaging and hands-on experience. They will have materials to enhance their oral language, listening comprehension, oral language vocabulary, alphabetic code, alphabet knowledge, phonological/ phonemic awareness, as well as print Knowledge and Concepts.
The Flex-Space Wobble Cushions will allow my students to learn where they are most comfortable while giving them a tactile and sensorial experience so they can focus on the learning they are engaged in throughout the day.
The Lakeshore Manipulative Library, Waffle Builders, and Slot-A-Shape Builders will provide my students with materials that will enhance their innovation skills, critical thinking skills, and creativity. These materials are perfect for developing and advancing fine motor skills, eye-hand coordination, visual discrimination, recognition of shapes, colors, and textures, comparison of similarities and differences, matching, classification, pattern recognition, following directions, following sequences, and concentrating for completing tasks. Most importantly, these resources will give my students chances to practice creativity and problem-solving skills.
My students need materials to engage them to reach their fullest potential. With this project coming to life, the learning opportunities would be endless!
