My Students
My students come from a rural, low socioeconomic background and school supplies are low on the list for many families. My students face plenty of challenges inside and outside of the classroom. I want to create a classroom where they feel safe and comfortable. I also want to give my students literacy opportunities that they wouldn’t otherwise have access to. It’s my ultimate goal to share and create a love for reading and writing in every single one of them.
My Project
These books would be such a good resource to have in the classroom. This novel follows a little girl and her family's tragedy that leads in to the Great Depression and Esperanza must find a way to rise above her difficult circumstances. It teaches empathy and brings in American History while teaching English/Language Arts.
Our students would greatly benefit from being able to hold the actual books in their hands to participate in literature circles.
To just read aloud the book from the teacher, doesn't do it justice. Students greatly benefit from being able to hold the book and participate in discussions.
