Help me give my students a class set of the book Wonder to understand what kindness is and to learn empathy.
This project expired on February 16, 2019.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
I have 32 amazing students that work hard, despite the environment they live in. My school has a Title I designation, however, these students come to school each day ready to learn, eager to learn about new places, new students, and new cultures. Our school is a safe place for our students to learn and grow. The students that attend this school are ethnically and socio-economically diverse, providing a potentially rich learning environment as students participate in classroom discourse from their individual perspectives.
The book Wonder will help my students learn empathy and kindness by understanding the differences of others. Wonder will help them understand a fellow classmate who is different from them and understand that he is a kid just like them, that wants friends and to be accepted.
This book is also at grade level; however, many of my students are below grade level and have difficulty with comprehension.
I believe that this book will hold their interest, help them with understanding and further their reading skills.
My goal with these students is to help them to learn how to read and to learn to love reading! Reading is difficult, and they need help with learning how to watch a book in their minds like a movie!
