This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Oh the thinks you can think if you only try!" is a Dr. Seuss quote I use daily in my classroom. Working in a Title One school I have a diverse background of students. However, we start each day with a song about hard work, because that's what it takes to be the best you that you can be!
My Title One kindergarten class is full of diverse student backgrounds, personalities, and educational backgrounds.
However, they are each loved and challenged the same! At the kindergarten level these children are beginning their educational career. Some are soaring, and some are struggling. However, it is my job to keep their mindset positive about school and help them each be as successful as possible. With the challenges they may face at home, I try and provide a loving, but challenging educational setting. Each child can be who they are and accepted and supported throughout their first full school year experience. My school is a safe haven for these students to see positive and successful influences in their world. I also believe Donors Choose gives my classroom the opportunity to give my kids materials they may not have at home. I want my classroom to open doors for their future and I believe improving my resource library can help me do this for them.
My Project
At the kindergarten level I have noticed children can use a tablet or phone for gaming, but not much else. I want to expose them to technology that is fun, but educationally centered. I want them to gain a sense that technology and learning can be combined for a fun experience. Its not just about silly or violent games, but learning and exploring at their age appropriate level. Students will use tablets and pod touches to explore educational games, and QR codes to work and practice skills independently. I have set a goal this year to build independence in my students by increasing their ability to implement technology in their math and literacy centers. I believe students should help to guide their learning, and building their ability to use technology independently can help is achieve that goal. These items allow the students to explore safely and work independently and feel like "big kids" while learning and investigating safe technology resources.
My students are entering kindergarten on all different ability levels.
I have picked these materials to help support my struggling students and challenge my accelerated students. I have also chosen items they can use on their own during center time. This will integrate educational technology that I can insure is safe and educationally based. This will allow my students to work independently on their level to grow into amazing kindergarten students.
