My Students

Hi! My students are Indigenous students - specifically Lakota students. We live in a very rural town and typically need to travel an hour to get supplies. Supplies are very limited here.

My students are many things - they are bright, excited to learn, driven, and amazing.

They are multi-faceted learners - they learn best through hearing orally, seeing visually, practicing kinesthetically, and using sensory learning to really cement what they have learned. They are working hard to learn our language and their own, as well as to master letters and numbers after the pandemic rendered it impossible for them to attend in-person school for 2 whole years.

My Project

My students are not given specials like art and music unless provided by the classroom teacher. At our school, we feel that it is extremely important for kids from K-2 to have the opportunity to express themselves through art and to get to explore different art materials. Each day, schools are moving away from art, music, and other important aspects of learning in favor of just reading and math

Art is not only a talent, it is an outlet for students to express themselves, think creatively, and enjoy school.

As educators, we should be highlighting every student's gifts, including artistic talent. I intend to share these art projects between all of the kindergarten through second-grade classes to give teachers the supplies they need to carry out a multitude of different lessons emphasizing the importance of fine motor skills like cutting, gluing, and coloring but also the importance of practicing, thinking creatively and creating something you are really proud of.
