Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students need some technology to use in their homes for distance learning. They all come from a low socio-economic (low SES) background, are recipients of free or reduced-price lunch, and are all English Language Learners (EL). Every day, they must overcome adversity to reach their goals. They have been at home since the first week of March since we went into quarantine right after Spring Break. As for distance learning, many students use their parent's mobile device if they are available because they do not have a proper computer or laptop at home. Most of my students have multiple siblings who are also using the same mobile devices. I am doing twice daily class meetings with my class, as well as many mobile assignments using various digital programs.
My goal is to share experiences with them that they would otherwise not have the chance to experience because of their diverse backgrounds.
My Project
When we went off for Spring Break we had not idea that we would be not returning to school! I really need these items in order to keep in constant communication with my students and to help them with what ever is needed. My students come from hispanic backgrounds and many times, I am not only helping them with school, but also helping their parents attain services that are needed for distance learning, food supplies or other types of needs that may arise. Having some mobile technology will help me keep in contact with my families all times.
