This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students desire to properly lift weights so that they are able to improve their muscular strength and endurance.

I teach 70 students (35 boys, 35 girls) in two Fitness for Life classes.

Most of them are involved in athletics, whether representing the school or in a separate leagues (football, swimming, etc.). They have all expressed a desire to learn different ways to improve their overall health so that they can excel in their sport.

My Project

Our school's Fitness for Life students and physical education department desperately need funds to purchase kettlebells. We feel that kettlebells would be the wisest purchase for the class. The kettlebell has several purposes and benefits in a circuit training environment. The exercises I plan on teaching the students in class are the row, press, jerk, swing, and clean. The benefits to kettlebell training are it is a fun cardiovascular workout, it combines both cardiovascular and strength training, it teaches the students a full range of motion movements, it is safe for any age, it engages the student's balance and core in every exercise, the movements are basic and easier for the students to learn, it teaches better posture, strengthens joints, develops power and explosiveness, it is cheaper than dumbbells and machines, and it does not take up a lot of storage space.

This project is important to me because my students want to excel at their sport and want to learn how to properly lift weights so they reduce the risk of injury and build confidence when entering into high school.

I feel that my students will learn the correct technique with the right equipment and experience the joys of exercise.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
