My students need a new double sided teaching easel so that we can sit on our community rug and practice our phonics, math, write, and read our weekly big books, using the stand.
We are the Scholar Class. Together we work towards bettering our lives, education, and personal self worth. We are a public choice school in Concord, CA. Parents and the community have committed to supporting their child's education by volunteering their time in and outside of the school and making education a priority. There is no question that our students are privileged to have such amazing support and perhaps one of the reasons we are one of the top 20% high performing public schools in California. However, we rely on time and energy, not money.
Our wait lists are getting longer, and our school is becoming more and more diverse, which just widens the students' needs and abilities.
They speak more than twenty-seven languages including English, Spanish, Bulgarian, Russian, Japanese, Tagalog, and Arabic. Along with multicultural and economic diversity, our school is seeing a large increase of students being diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, Autism, and other learning disabilities. Therefore, the need to look outside the box and find ways to meet the needs and abilities of our students is more important today than ever.
My Project
Our class is in constant motion and we need to have a classroom that supports learning in different ways. One physical area that most kids are drawn to is the rug! Why? Because we can move away from our traditional desks, sit and work together. One item that would make teaching so much easier is a mobile whiteboard.
This versatile easel makes it incredibly easy to explore concepts with the whole class, including phonics word making, editing morning messages, writing class stories, and reading our weekly language arts' big book stories.
This easel has an extra-wide design that will give lots of room to write, teach and display!
The mobile easel has a magnetic write & wipe board on each side: One is blank, and one has permanent primary lines that make it perfect for modeled writing. Plus, it has rings on top to hang our pocket charts, a tray to hold our big books, charts and posters and it even has a roomy shelf to store supplies.
Having a mobile easel in the classroom would allow us to ditch our boring desks and learn in multiple areas of the classroom. Kids can come up and interact, correct, and manipulate writing & math manipulatives because it's kid-height friendly. It's a versatile teaching center on wheels that not only will make teaching more interactive, but it will make our classroom environment more organized and resourceful, too.
