I have not met my students, yet, but I have met students like them. When students walk into elementary school, we expect them to behave and learn in certain ways. My students have not been as successful as they should be in one or both areas. This can lead to self-doubt, frustration, and discouragement early on if not combated.
My students will be excited to be at school, ready to try new things, and full of energy.
If these great attributes are not cultivated, they may not last. I plan to create a welcoming, calm environment that encourages success and failures alike. We can learn from them both in different ways! It is okay to not be okay.
My Project
Every day when students enter my room, we will get out our Yoga mats and do some deep breathing and Yoga. Honestly, doing Yoga classes was how I learned to handle my anxiety. Before doing Yoga, I never understood the power of breathing. It has been a life lesson I am thankful for. My students need GoYoga mats.
The students who enter our classrooms are experiencing trauma at alarming rates.
We must do something to help combat the negative effects of trauma. I have a plan for how to help my students. I am going to build a safe, reflective classroom. Yoga will be used to teach mindfulness and breathing techniques. Yoga helped me. I know it will help my kids, too.
