I teach kindergarten at an inner city school. My little kiddos are regular fun-loving and sweet children, who are ready to learn! I frequently hear from my students how much they love coming to school. Each day, I am showered with beautiful homemade drawings and crafts because they are the most thoughtful boys and girls.
My students face some tough obstacles, as I work in a community where many of them have free or reduced price lunch.
Yet, they come to school each day unphased and with big smiles! They are a joy to teach and I feel very lucky to be a part of their educational journey.
My Project
Most of the children with special services are in my classroom. I am always on the hunt for ideas in order to support these students. Additionally, these materials can benefit all of the students in class. I am asking for different types of fidget toys such as pencil toppers and "snap and click" snake twisters (children can use these at their desks or rug with out distracting others), as they are proven to help improve concentration and attention during lessons. I am asking for timers for students who work better with a visual to transition from one activity to the next. The class set of slinkys will be used as a fun way to isolate letter sounds and blend words together. The glitter wand will be used for our "Take a Break" space, where children can go to calm down if they are upset or decompress if they need time for themselves.
My children who require special services are just as smart as their friends in our class, but may need extra manipulatives to help them thrive and get on the right track each day.
The materials I hope to receive will help my students work out any anxiety or fidgeting issues they may have then you can even imagine! Fidget manipulatives can help these 5 year olds stay focused and on task without distracting other students around them.
