I teach Academic Intervention Services to students in our rural elementary school in upstate New York. Our school has a student population of 350 students in grades K-5 and many qualify for reading intervention services daily. These students are at risk of not meeting grade-level expectations are recommended to receive Academic Intervention Services.
My students come from diverse backgrounds, with a large percentage of economically disadvantaged students.
Many of the students at our school qualify for free and reduced lunch, health and mental health services through community partnerships and our school's weekly backpack program which includes food for students and their families. A percentage of our students and families also struggle to maintain housing and are considered homeless within our district.
My students are eager, young, innovative, and compassionate learners who work hard on a daily basis. Our students are both sympathetic and empathetic to classmates creating a safe and loving learning environment.
My Project
As our COVID-19 numbers increase in our area, we have been told that we will be continuing on with virtual school for the second trimester.
My students are enthusiastic learners who pick up supplies once a month to support virtual learning.
My project will provide students with print outs to be used at home and new dry erase markers. I am currently using my own home printer to print out packets, assessments, and other activities. Without the convenience of the school printer, I go through paper and ink much faster than before. Your donation will allow me to print from home without running out of paper or ink!
