My Students

Our school is a PreK through eighth grade building that nearly 900 students call their home. Norfolk is home to the largest naval base in the world. Many of our families are part of the military, which means that many of our students have to deal with one, or even both, of their parents, being on deployment for long periods of time.

One of my biggest goals each year is to help my students become confident readers and maybe even develop a love for reading.

Many of my students come to me as struggling readers. Every year, I am impressed with how hard they are willing to work to fill in those gaps and see how much they grow.

Between my two classes, I teach reading, writing, and history to nearly 50 students, including students receiving special education services, English language learners, as well as gifted learners.

My hope is to provide the students with a safe and fun place to learn! Over the years, I have worked very hard at turning our classroom into our "Home Sweet Classroom!"

My Project

This fall, our students returned back to the classroom full time. For many of our students, this was the first time they have stepped foot in the school since March 2020. While we are in the building, our days still don't look like they used to. I am trying to continue to provide my students with engaging, hands-on learning experiences as much as possible.

Teachers Pay Teachers provides teachers with endless lessons and activities to use both in the classroom and online.

By having this, it will cut back greatly on the amount of time spent to create the activities. This will allow me to focus my time on planning lessons and providing support to my families.
