Help me give my students the feathers, google eyes, pipe cleaners, scotch tape the pencils, X-ACTO School Pro Classroom Electric Pencil Sharpener papers, ink, sharpies, the dry erase, and Clorox Disinfecting Wipes to clean up afterwards.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have been teaching at my current location since 2014 but have been in the education field since 1989 and as the years go by my students seem to need much more than their parents can afford.
Some of my students are homeless, in foster care or are living in single-family homes with limited financial resources attending Pre-K to 5th grade.
Currently, I am the 5th grade Reading Writing - Language Arts Lead teacher. This is our 4th year as an Arts Integration School and although the staff is buying into the program, we do not have the necessary materials to incorporate the arts into each lesson. I would like to get some materials and equipment to use during my Professional Development presentation that I engage the staff in each quarter.
When the teacher has the appropriate materials to accompany the lesson, their students experience a wonderful transformation into the arts, and their grades tend to improve because they are better able to express.
My Project
During my Professional Development sessions The teachers will have a the opportunities to learn how to create different visual artifacts based on the different curriculum content areas, standards and topics. For example they may use the buttons to create different math groups, or the feathers, buttons and pipe cleaners to recreate a story character. The papers will be used for a variety of visual arts effects. Our children will have hands on learning experience which will stimulate and excite them more. It will be a departure from the mundane work in their seats reading and writing and will allow them to express their artistic talents.
Art supplies are a rare commodity in our school.
Donors Choose supplies will be an asset to the teaching staff and will benefit the students the most. The materials will be held in an art closet and made available to the teachers for them to access as needed to use in their classrooms when they are ready to implement the Arts Integrated lessons.
