I have been teaching kindergarten at a Title One school for the past two years.
I love my job and adore my students. Kindergarten has been my favorite grade to teach because, in my opinion, you can see the most growth. I have had students who in August could not recognize any letters. By the end of the year, they were reading fluently. My students come in each day excited and ready to learn. I want to create an environment where all my students needs are being met, regardless of their ability levels.
My Project
I am requesting professional development books to aide in differentiating my lessons for my students. I have 22 students learning at nearly as many levels. These books will assist me in differentiating my reading and math centers so no child is left out. There are times that I feel like students are not fully engaged, and these texts will help me with planning that will involve each of my students, regardless of their academic level. I want all of my students needs to be met.
I am also requesting a laptop. This laptop will be used to take notes during professional development meetings and to create lesson plans, utilizing the information on differentiation I will have learned through the professional development books. I will also use the laptop to create graphs and charts of my students progress throughout the year. The students will be able to see and track their progress as the year advances.
My students learn at so many different levels.
This project will provide insight on how I can better serve those students who I feel I am "missing" during our lessons and center time. By utilizing the professional development texts, I will be able to differentiate my lessons and centers more effectively. I will be able to reach each one of my students. Graphing and charting their progress is a great motivator not just for me as their teacher, but for the individual student and their parents.
