My Students

My students are teachers first. We are a school district that invests in our students by studying children's literature. We choose books that have received positive acclaim in the blogs we read and by the professional organizations we belong to. We look for books that are written by diverse authors and that feature diverse characters.

We read children's literature to ensure that we put the best books in front of our students and to show that we are readers, too.

Students love knowing that they're reading books that the teachers have read, and our relationships with them as a community of readers deepens.

My Project

Our Kid Lit Book Study is a group of teacher learners and leaders who study children's literature for the benefit of our students. We study one carefully chosen picture book or chapter book each month, and come together to discuss lesson ideas, classroom implications, language study and mentor text possibilities.

We choose books that provide diverse experiences~ windows into the world and mirrors that reflect who we are.

Through this study, our eyes are opened to our students' diverse backgrounds, as well as to our own.

Our students love reading books that we've already read. They love the shared reading experience this provides, and our relationships and our community of readers becomes stronger.
