Teacher Tools for Effective Delivery of Distance Learning Lessons

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our elementary students have embarked on distance learning since mid-March. The last trimester proved to be quite a challenge since we were treading in uncharted waters. Yet, our sixth graders persevered and ended the year on a high note. This Fall, my incoming students are sure to rise to the challenge as well. Our district recently decided to continue the new school year with distance learning in order to ensure our students safety since our zip code is the one who has experienced the most Covid-19 cases in our county. As such, my students will need resources to help them continue learning remotely from home.
My Project
As the new school year begins with distance learning as its instructional model, I need to make sure our students are given the highest quality education possible. After reflecting on the 60 days I taught remotely, I realized two tools would have greatly enhanced my instruction process. I don't want to create a disservice to our future students when our current circumstances are already dire enough.
Our daily Google Meet lessons will be enhanced with the use of the INSWAN document camera when working from our language arts and/or math consumables and by the usage of the Airpods Pro because any potential background noise on my end will be eliminated so students can hear me clearly.
Rather than displaying a consumable near the laptop's camera once I complete a problem/question, like I did the last trimester of the previous academic year when distance learning began, the document camera will enable me to show students the step-by-step completion of the problem/question just like when we are actually physically in the classroom. My previous method of display was ineffective because students would not even be aware of what I was writing since the quality of what they saw on their end was either too small or too blurry. Also, it would lead me to cover my face so they could see the consumable. The Airpods will allow me to project my voice clearly so students don't miss any detail of the lesson.
