Teacher Thinks Outside of the Box

My Students

My students from the Chicagoland area take part in a program for gifted and high achieving students. These students attend a Title I school and come from very diverse backgrounds. Students are challenged every week to excel and achieve.

This opportunity will help me to inspire a love of learning and a deep connection to the subject matter, which is vital to learning.

Social emotional development is so important, it is critical for students to have an understanding of the world.

My Project

As a teacher for diverse population gifted students, I am constantly working to come up with ways to push and enhance student learning. Making deep connections to both subject areas and schema (prior learning) is a necessity.

This professional development will show me, as an educator, how tapping into empathy helps our students to become better learners and make more impactful connections.

Real world problem solving, innovative and creative solutions, and design thinking, are all aspects I will take back to my classroom to use within my lesson plans. This is an opportunity that will help make my students' educational experience more equitable.
