Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I will be teaching students this year, initially- for the 1st 9-weeks virtually. During this COVID-19 pandemic, teaching methods have changed drastically and we are now relying heavily on the use of technology. My students will be learning virtually from home on Chromebooks which will be provided by the school system.

One hundred percent of the students at my school receive free breakfast and lunch and are classified as at-risk and lower-income.

The courses that I will be teaching are General/Honors Biology (10-12) and Environmental Science (9-12).

My Project

Teaching science virtually has and is challenging-especially when it comes to explaining and modeling key concepts. Some students are more 'visual" learners than others. I have access to a document camera at school but will need one for at-home instruction in case we have to quarantine in place for any time during this COVID-19 outbreak. When I am teaching Punnett squares in genetics, it helps to be able to model the process with my students in real-time on the document camera. I am trying to have an "at home" set up for instruction so that I will be able to have a seamless transition in my daily instruction and interaction with my students. Thank you for helping me facilitate this endeavor.
