Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from low-income families that are of Hispanic and African-American descent. Most of the students speak two languages and struggle with the transitions between the languages. Some students can not afford basic school supplies, get a good night sleep, concentrate on their educational success due to home issues that some adults never have to think about.
It is my job to provide a safe and effective environment for a successful academic future.
I focus on each of my students' needs through small group and one on one work. It is my goal to keep students engaged and focused while in small groups. I have to be very creative with this due to our schools limited funding for extra materials. These materials would help my students stay focused and productive during their center time.
My Project
My students work in small groups daily for Reading and Math. We gather in groups to effectively differentiate learning. The student's needs are able to be met when they are separated by their ability to master a skill.
A teacher table will provide me the ability to work with my students in effective small groups helping them meet mastery on their differentiated levels.
Small groups gives students a sense of safety in their learning. They share and contribute more when they work with the teacher. A teacher table will provide my students with a safe and secure area to learn and share their thoughts and ideas.
