I teach a very culturally and economically diverse group of sweet and silly 7th grade students in a close-knit family-oriented community. My students constantly amaze me with their willingness and desire to learn. This school year the kids seem to be most enthused about the escape room activities we did together in class. At the end of each escape room, I would hear, "Can we do this again?" As a result of this, I learned how to make my own escape rooms.
My favorite part of professional learning and development is that moment when the students ask, "Can we do this again?" To get there, I spend my summers and most of fall reading, preparing, and planning for the upcoming year, which is why I put this project together.
My Project
In my last project, I asked for more books to support my students. I realized that I also need to update my own professional development library and find some books to keep my teaching practices alive. I plan to use these books to inform my reading instruction. As students are reading their new books, I will be planning meaningful and exciting reading instruction for them. I can't wait for the summer to read these new books, but I am equally excited for the kids to get back and for us to get started reading!
