Teacher Needs Books For Struggling, Motivated Readers
My students need hard copies and CDs of The Giver, Frindle, and Number the Stars, and Reading Comprehension and Reading & Writing Skills Folder Game Libraries.

I work at a school of high need and poverty in Asheville, North Carolina. I work two jobs in order to make ends meet. In the afternoons I work as a music director and during the day I work as a literacy teacher. My students love to read but they need books.
Many students have reached the upper grades and are still struggling with reading.
They are several years below grade level. I plan on working to change this however I need books! Simple class sets of paperback readers like Frindle, Charlotte's Web, Number The Stars,The Giver etc. Without books how can I teach the children to understand all of the nuances of good literature? Your donation will help to put books directly into the hands of the children so that they can discover the magic of reading. I appreciate any amount you are able to donate as even having one class set of novels would enable us to delve into a book at the beginning of the school year- many thanks!!!!!!!!
My Project
This project requests hard copies and CDs of The Giver, Frindle, and Number the Stars, and Reading Comprehension and Reading & Writing Skills Folder Game Libraries.
The book sets I am requesting will be used so that the students can work in literature circles together and read, as well as discuss their insights while reading these literature selections. The CD recordings of the books will help the students who have difficulty with vocabulary and fluency understand the text. The independent activities will be used as a resource so that students not participating in a reading group can continue to learn and practice the many skills needed to be a successful reader.
Your donations will allow me as a teacher to put books into the hands of our children.
Currently I copy short reading passages from the Internet for the children. Although they are reading, they are not experiencing the love and appreciation of a book as a piece of art containing crafted use of the written word to teach, evoke emotion and transport the reader to another world.
