Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My first grade class is filled with hard-working, excited, and sweet kids that are eager to learn. Each day they walk in to class with a ready-to-work attitude that really makes learning exciting in the classroom The best part is, that we have created a classroom community that supports one another, shares materials, and encourages each other to learn and grow more both academically and socio-emotionally.
Many of these students come from backgrounds that could easily knock them down, but they choose joy each day and have taught me so much about life in such a short amount of theirs!
My Project
In the classroom we work on computers during small group instruction everyday and whole class throughout the week. Although we were given headphones in the beginning of the year for students, they were not as durable as we need them to be.
Our class is down to 14 headphones that work, which makes it difficult for my students to all work on their computers at the same time.
The students are required to work on their individualized iReady portal for at least 30 minutes a week. iReady is a district-wide computer program that diagnosis then individualizes instruction based on the students' needs and areas of growth. They need headphones to be able to hear their own lessons and help avoid being distracted by others. They also use computer headphones for games and assignments related directly to our grade level curriculum.
