This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our fine arts magnet school is located in a vibrant and diverse community. Although we are in a high-poverty district, our school has been able to retain our fine arts magnet status. However, it has been a challenge to find funding for exciting, up-to-date learning materials that fit our 21st-century students.

One hundred percent of the students who attend our school receive free or reduced-price lunch.

We have a highly diverse immigrant population. As a choice school, students from many different backgrounds and countries attend our fine arts and technology program. Our staff works hard to provide them with any materials they need to enhance their learning experiences. We are preparing them for 21st-century careers!

My Project

I teach technology at our school. One of my goals is to prepare our 21st-century students for 21st-century careers. Last year I read an article that stated 65% of our current students will face jobs that don't even exist yet.

Katie, a software engineer, created a gem stone bracelet, that will allow students to experience augmented reality.

The AR experience also include story lines which will engage all students. One of the stories involves butterflies -the students need to move their arm to 'catch' them. In particular, this would be an excellent activity for my special needs students to practice movement. In our tech class we do robotics, 3D printing, computer work -this AR experience would bring us to another level! It would also be amazing to share with them that technology can be used in jewelry, furniture design, homes, and so much more. Here's to an exciting future for our students!
