Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Despite all the adversity they face, my students are always motivated and ready to learn. Unfortunately, my students are growing up in a neighborhood where there is very little inspiration. In hope of my students not falling into the negativity they are surrounded by, I do my best to maintain a welcoming, safe, and inspiring classroom environment.
Since we have limited resources offered in our school, it is difficult to keep lessons engaging for them.
The majority of my students are English learners. Although they have not fully mastered the English language, time and time again, my students work hard to excel academically. Therefore, they deserve to have the resources needed to attain a higher level education.
My Project
For many of us, our school district officials decide on resources that are neither teacher-approved, nor student approved. Thus, when students are taught, some dislike learning and think it is boring. Unfortunately, the majority of these companies do not take our students' different learning abilities or backgrounds in consideration when creating these programs. TeachersPayTeachers on the other hand, is filled with teacher (and student) approved resources that meet state standards.
My wish is for my students to have a social studies curriculum that exposes them to other cultures and social issues that we all experience today.
Attaining gift cards to TeachersPayTeachers will help me teach rigorous lessons that are more suitable for my students and more interactive than the bland social studies program provided by our school district.
The majority of my class is made up of English learners. I know that for them it is particularly difficult to understand certain topics just by note-taking or by reading from textbooks. They need videos, pictures, hands-on activities, and picture books to help them better understand concepts. With these gift cards, I hope to make social studies lessons attainable for all types of learners in my classroom. I also hope to hear less moaning and groaning when Social Studies hour comes.
