Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am finishing up my third year teaching in Oklahoma City Public Schools. I absolutely love teaching fifth grade. My mom taught fifth grade too for twenty years, and has always been my inspiration. I knew I wanted to teach when I saw her past students come back and say "You made a difference."
Additionally, I am passionate about teaching at my school because I live in the neighborhood where my school is located.
My students are my neighbors. This community needs its children to get the finest education possible in order to break the cycle of poverty. We are a Title I, majority Hispanic school with all children receiving free and reduced lunch.
My Project
I am requesting the opportunity to attend professional development at the Pathfinders Summer Institute over robotics and coding in the elementary grades. Pathfinders Summer Institute 2018 is an intensive week of in-person professional development in Computer Science and Making. The Institute will be hosted by Infosys Foundation USA at Indiana University Bloomington from July 15-20, 2018.
Junior Botball Challenge is a Computer Science (CS) focused education program that provides equipment, software, curriculum and professional development to elementary and middle school educators (K-8) to enable them to teach their students computer science and computational thinking concepts coupled with real-life applications of the engineering design process.
