I need further professional development on student engagement, content focused best practices, and strategies to run an individualized, student-centered classroom.
Just west of the Twin Cities, my second-grade class is full of students eager for information! I have twenty-eight active second graders, who are finding out who they are as students, and where they fit in our community. We have worked very hard so far this year to build a positive classroom community where students are leaders, hardworking, and cooperative. I will loop with my students next year, as we extend our learning in third grade.
The amazing energy level in my classroom can be felt as soon as you walk in.
My students want to move, experiment, create, and question their learning. My students have stated that their favorite time of the day, is independent reading time and Art. If we have to miss our quiet & cozy reading time for anything, there are whines and moans heard from the hallway. Through books, students can take adventures, share aspirations, and grow their knowledge. Many reluctant readers at the beginning of the year now request new titles to explore, sharing with their classmates a love for books. This class is full of energy, and do amazing with any learning experiences that are interactive and engaging.
My Project
Attending Teach Your Heart Out is a magical experience, and it is arriving right on my front doorsteps in Minneapolis. After attending once before two years ago, I was able to apply new strategies for classroom management, integrating STEAM, reading and writing strategies, and engagement. I left feeling energized, inspired, and with an amazing new circle of teachers from around the United States with whom I still collaborate with to this day.
The variety of skills and subjects covered over the two days make the reward outway the hefty price tag.
This conference will provide applicable strategies to implement the following school day. This opportunity will allow reflection in all aspects of my teaching; working to improve myself for the children and families I serve everyday.
