I teach 4th grade small group reading and I love the genuine curiosity that my students bring to each lesson. Some of them are struggling with the basics reading skills but I try my best to keep them engaged, motivated and help them learn to love reading.
Incorporating social and emotional learning into our daily lessons is important and it helps to create a safe, comfortable and nurturing environment for everyone.
As a teacher in a Title I school, my students have to deal with additional challenges that other students do not face, yet they come to school every day ready to learn.
The diverse population, home languages and ability levels in my classes require differentiation and language support. My students respond best to hands-on activities that have been modified to meet their needs. As a former special education teacher, I see the potential in each of my students and know that they are all capable of great things!
Throughout my teaching career, I’ve realized that the classroom is made up of an eclectic mix of little people. In order for me to provide the most nurturing environment for each child, I have to stay informed about current, research-based practices.
As a reading teacher, it is especially important to find innovative ways to teach basic reading skills and comprehension to older struggling readers.
My students with disabilities and English Language Learners need differentiated instruction and appropriate modifications. Teach Your Heart Out-San Diego will give me the tools I need to help my little ones succeed! The best part is that I can bring these tools back and share them with fellow educators.
