Third graders have so much pressure on them to "pass the test". But, when you come from a home that is chaotic, living in high poverty where there is no emphasis on learning, passing the test is out of the question.
My third graders come from a culturally diverse district that is high poverty (100% economically disadvantaged, free lunch).
Many of these students feel discouraged.
My students are inquisitive, creative, culturally diverse, and innovative. From the day I meet my students, we focus on their amazing potential and helping them discover this amazing potential while instilling hope. I strive to help my students hope, hope for themselves and hope for their future. We also emphasize the power and importance of reading and learning.
Technology is the future and preparing our students for it is our duty. Due to our economic diversity, many of them do not have access to technology at home. While at school, the students have a very limited amount of access to computers, as we do not have many and have to share with all grades. Having our own set of computers will allow my third graders the opportunity to successfully navigate and type on a computer. They will build the foundational skills they need to research projects, find information for class, and how to type documents on google docs.
