Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are young, and if I am excited, then they will be excited. Children love to be student leaders, and empowering them with praise and rewards helps them feel good about themselves. This enthusiasm will give them a lifelong love for learning.

Parents around this area may be fishing guides, service industry workers, clerical, factory workers, and wide range of other professions.

The students are typically hands on learners whose only access to technology may be their parents' telephone.

Generally the children tend to have several siblings and may be living with extended family. I did many home visits last year, and some days it was difficult to see 7 people in a tiny hotel room, or 8 people in a salvaged RV. Not all of my students were in these situations, but many do have some barriers to overcome.

My Project

My students will use the listening center daily to build their reading skills during center time. They generally love books and love to hear stories. The center we had was damaged during The storm and it would be great to have a new one.

The alphabet punches are great to teach them about letters by giving them center projects where they have to spell.

This gives them practice saying and seeing each letter and also taking it to the next level and forming the word.

The dot learning will take them to the next level after the listening center where they will start to distinguish words and begin the reading process. The books will help the children understand rhymes.
