My students need fishing rod/reel combos as well as a folding chair to learn the lifetime sport of fishing.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students in our school are taught leadership skills, team building skills, and participate in a variety of after school clubs Our children are of migrant families and due to Hurricane Irma, many are facing numerous challenges as their homes slowly get rebuilt. We have a dance program that is part of our performing arts . At the end of each year and during the holidays, our dance troop performs in the community. We have students from kinder to sixth grade, and most all our students come from low income families, the under served community. Our students are eager to learn, courageous, teachable and infinitely grateful for what they have. Our scholars walk to and from school and see education as a way out of poverty. Students are served breakfast, lunch and dinner during a normal day and have the option to participate in a club after school such as; photography, sports, yoga, art and computer. Students at our school are hungry for life and inspired to be our next generation of leaders.
My Project
The beginner fishing poles will be used by students to see if they can cast into a hula hoop using rubber plugs. We will have students line up on the basketball court end line and place targets around the half court mark, Proper safety and casting techniques will be taught for student success in this beginner activity. The next station we will use rubber fish as targets and the spinning rods will be used after a brief lesson on this particular rod and reel. The portable chair and fishing gear bag is perfect to store and transport extra gear to and from the lesson site. The portable chair will come in handy if a student needs rest or first aid of any kind. The fishing gear will inspire our students giving them more innovative learning experiences.
