"There is so much I want to tell you!" I see this in my students' eyes everyday. I teach an amazing group of student with autism. Their ages range from 5 years old to 9 years old with vary degrees of autism spectrum disorder.
1 in every 100 children born has autism. Autism is growing at a rapid pace; however,we live in such an exciting time as research becomes more and more available in the field of autism. My school has just created the first autism classroom in our school district. Setting a standard is a daunting task! With education funding decreasing, I have little supplies to teach these children. I need to stock a classroom!
These items may just seem like toys to you, but for my students, they are the platform in which their education will begin. Teaching student with autism to speak, learn, and interact socially with others takes unique and non-traditional methods of teaching.
