Children often learn through play. For my classroom of students who come from various cultural backgrounds and languages play will help them to develop English language vocabulary.11 of my students are new comers or beginning English Language Learners. Puppets will be a fun way to practice.
I teach in an urban area in MD.
My student population consists of mainly English language learners and students who receive free or reduced lunch. These children have many obstacles to face when it comes to excelling in school.I want to make the classroom a place that is exciting and inviting to inspire them to learn and excel.I want students to understand that they CAN do well by creating a classroom that is developmentally appropriate and engaging for them.
These wonderful puppets and library books to accompany them will help my students to develop their English language vocabulary by giving them a fun and creative way to retell familiar stories. This will be a creative element for students to compose their own stories, as well as helping them foster a love for reading and story telling. In addition, these puppets will allow a multicultural element showing students puppets that look more like them and help them to develop a healthy self image.
Your donations will help my students develop a love for reading and give them a creative outlet to practice their developing English language skills.
Students will be learning through play making this transition to their first year in school and a new language easier for them!
