My students need to learn athletic taping, wrapping, and bracing in Sports Medicine 2. This phenomenal book has color photos and step-by-step instructions to supplement teacher instruction and student skill-building.
This year I have the privilege of beginning a new program for our school: Sports Medicine. I have five marvelous classes of Sports Medicine 1, comprised of young men and women in grades 9th through 12th. These students' career interests range from coaching to athletic training to Orthopedic surgeons. More than half of them play sports for the school. Most of my students are enthusiastic members of our Hosa: Future Health Professionals club. Next year, I will expand the program to include Sports Medicine 2, an advanced course on the treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
I am excited to work with so many bright and curious young adults.
They are taking my class because they have a genuine interest in becoming healthcare professionals. I can't wait to see who each of them will become!
My Project
In Sports Medicine 2, students will learn how to assess and treat acute athletic injuries. They'll use several types of athletic tape and a variety of sizes of elastic bandages, as well as crutches, ice, and athletic braces. While much of our equipment and supplies were purchased in a previous grant, I was unable to afford these valuable books and larger wraps.
Most of my students have experienced athletic injuries, and have a personal interest in helping themselves and others.
They are genuinely committed to learning these skills, and I am excited about getting more hands-on activities into our lessons!
