Help me give my students a cultures around the world theme kit, an alphabet learning tablet, and a sight word sentences creating center to learn about diversity around the world.
I have been a special education teacher in a diverse and urban school community for 4 years. I just started my second year as a resource specialist teacher. What makes my classroom special is that my students are always provided with equal learning opportunities and I never allow my students to give up on themselves. I always push my students to do well and encourage them to keep trying their best no matter how many tries it takes them. My students absolutely dedicated and passionate about learning in the special education setting.
I want to teach my students to change their mindsets from "I can't" to "I can".
Throughout the few years that I've been teaching, I have met all sorts of students who have all helped me grow to become the teacher that I am today and I thank them every day for that. I have learned that different students learn in different ways and my students learn to adapt their learning styles so that they can continue learning new things so that they can have the most valuable and versatile learning experience in my classroom.
My Project
I am hoping to give my students culturally diverse materials that help teach them about cultural diversity because they live in a predominately Asian community and aren't completely exposed to other cultures aside their own. I want to show my students that there are other ethnicity and cultures around the world other than what they see daily. This year I really want to include more culturally diverse texts and other learning strategies to teach them about cultural diversity because I want to expose my students to diversity around the world. Using the materials from the cultures around the world theme box, I will have my students read about cultures around the world and write about what they learned about the different cultures.
As Kofi Annan said,"We may have different religions, different languages, different skin color, but we all belong to 1 human race."
My students require extra help with writing and so using the creating sight word sentences center, they can create sentences to help them support their cultural diversity writing. Sentence creating tools help support them in the writing process. Also, the Alphabet learning tablet can use be used to learn the beginning sounds of Ethnicity names such as "A for Appalachian", "B for Burmese", and etc. These are innovative ways to help students learn multiple skills at the same time while helping them engage in learning. After all, the first step about teaching cultural diversity is simply teaching and exposing our students to the world outside of the one they know.
