Teach Healthy, Learn Happy

Help me give my students disinfecting wipes, sanitizing spray, and a vacuum that will be used throughout the school week to maintain a clean, comfortable, and safe classroom. Aromatherapy will keep our learning environment calm and smelling great!

My Students

In Southern California, we get quite a diverse population in our classrooms. On one end of the spectrum, we have students who went to preschool for two years, attend one year of developmental kinder, and then start kindergarten. Then we have the opposite extreme of the spectrum, with a student whose parents just transferred in from a foreign country, who speaks limited or no English. They live in the neighborhood and wants to attend school with their neighbors. Both sets of students need to learn and to achieve to their highest potential. Our Common Core standards are the same for both students, yet the curriculum needs to be differentiated to suit their academic needs. When our students return to school, we know that the "traditional" classroom has been forever changed.

Our custodians work hard each and every day, but they have limited time to clean and sanitize each classroom. These necessary supplies will ensure that my students stay calm in a clean classroom environment.

My Project

This school year, our district has returned to full day, in-person instruction in classrooms. Our students, TK-5th grade, must wear face coverings during the entire school day, more than six hours, except when eating or drinking water. With these supplies, I want to provide a calm, clean, and safe environment that is conducive to optimal learning for all students.

This project includes necessary supplies to maintain a calm, clean, and safe environment to help protect my students from the spread of Covid and any of the variants during this school year.

Aromatherapy is an effective method to create a calming environment. The essential oils in aromatherapy activate the smell receptors in your nose, which send messages directly to your brain’s limbic system. The limbic system affects your emotions, memory, and learning. Inhaling essential oils stimulates different bodily responses, such as breathing patterns, blood pressure, and heart rate. We practice mindfulness with deep breathing and the aromatherapy oils will help us, even through our masks.

Stress is part of life, and affects everyone in different ways. While it’s nearly impossible to avoid, there are ways to manage it. For example, the essential oil lavender is scientifically proven to reduce stress. Lavender calms the nervous system, lowering blood pressure, and heart rate to help us become more relaxed. We will select scents based on our activities to calm or energize students.
